Increased risk of adult asthma was associated with dust storms. More research is needed to assess the impact of air pollution, including making reliable, nation-level standardized assessments for different pollutants.

Thirty-six studies were included in this systematic review which aimed to assess the health impacts of air pollution in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). Countries in the EMR are highly exposed to dust storms. A variety of indoor and outdoor exposure were associated with different acute and chronic respiratory health outcomes. These ranged in severity from allergies to lung cancer and mortality.
