Anti-viral effects of medicinal plants in the management of dengue: a systematic review
Medicinal plant products could be used for the development of potential anti-dengue virus agents.
Safe, low-cost, and effective drugs that can inhibit dengue infection are needed to try to combat dengue infection worldwide. The aim of the systematic review was to identify the published research concerning the use of medicinal plants in the management of dengue using the PubMed database. Six studies were identified from Malaysia, Argentina and USA of multiple plant species. Narrative synthesis discussed that the studies used different protocols and procedures, but overall the results indicated an inhibitory action against the dengue virus due the action of the medicinal plants. Study quality was not investigated.
