What is this? Some patients with COVID-19 will develop pneumonia and need help with their breathing. This might be provided by oxygen therapy.
What works: Non‐invasive ventilation may be more beneficial than standard oxygen supplementation via a Venturi mask for adult patients with pneumonia.
Non-invasive ventilation reduced the risk of death in ICU and intubation, and shortened the length of stay in ICU and the length of intubation for adult patients with pneumonia.
What doesn’t work: Nothing noted.
What’s uncertain: The relative effects of different oxygen therapies in wider population and subgroups, including those with other pulmonary conditions such as tuberculosis and cystic fibrosis, are uncertain.
