Water-related impacts of climate change on agriculture and subsequently on public health: A review for generalists with particular reference to Pakistan
Climate change is anticipated to have a profound effect on public health, especially regarding water-related issues like water quality, diseases, and changes in rain and drought patterns. There is a need for water conservation, risk management, and development of adaptation and mitigation strategies to cope with water-related impacts of climate change.
This comprehensive literature review focused on water-related impacts of climate change in Pakistan. Floods impact health outcomes negatively by bringing biological and chemical pollutants, contaminating groundwater, causing soil erosion, increasing water-borne and other infections. Several approaches to mitigating water-related impacts in countries comparable to Pakistan are proposed, including: reducing water scarcity through lifestyle chances, improving water laws, improving irrigation techniques and strategies, funding research, promoting information access, involving national bodies and key stakeholders.
